is it possible to switch cell phones without a new contract without the old phone?
my friend just recently lost her cell phone. she uses at&t. she turned it off, so that if someone has it they can’t use it.is it possible for her to buy a different phone and then activate it to work, without her old phone? also i know that the new cell phone has to be compatible with AT&T, but are there any other limiations?

Yes, she could buy an unlocked phone for use with the AT&T network. All she would have to do to activate it would be to insert her SIM card into the phone. Seeing as how she lost her phone, she probably lost her SIM card, so she’ll have to go into an AT&T store and have them give her a new SIM card. Some stores charge a small fee for SIM cards and others offer them for free. There really aren’t any limitations, she just has to make sure the phone is unlocked for AT&T.
